43 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BEACH, Earl Victor Earl was born on July 25, 1925 in Ottawa, Ontario. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on May 4, 1943. Pilot Officer Beach served with the RAF Middleton St. George and No. 149 Squadron during World War II. On the night of March 7, 1945, Lancaster aircraft KB 797 took off to attack Dessau and failed to return. The plane crashed 20 miles southeast of Dortmund, Germany. It is not known if they were going or returning from the mission and five of the seven crew members were missing in action. Earl was killed in action when his plane was shot down on that night. Earl received 6 medals. BEARDSELL, Thomas Thomas was born in Catford, London, England on March 31, 1904. He enlisted in the Army on January 26, 1940. He served in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe during World War II. He was discharged on August 26, 1946 and was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Upon returning to Canada he resided in Alliston, ON, working at the QM Stores at Camp Borden until his retirement. He was a member of Alliston Legion Branch 171. Thomas passed away on October 7, 1969. BEARD, Doris M. Doris was born on May 28, 1920 in London, Ontario. She enlisted in the Canadian Women’s Army Corp on February 12, 1943 and served with the 4th Platoon, A Company of the Army Pay Corp during World War II. She was discharged with the rank of Acting Sergeant on January 5, 1946. She was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the Canadian War Medal. Doris has been a valued long-time member of Claude Nunney V.C. Memorial Legion Branch 544 and also served in leadership roles with The Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Doris was awarded Life Membership with The Royal Canadian Legion for her exemplary and dedicated served to the Legion and to her community.
