71 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BROWN, Harold E. “Ted” Ted was born on August 30, 1912 in Brandon, MB. He enlisted in the Army in 1928 and served with the Manitoba Rangers in the United Kingdom, Italy and Northwest Europe. Captain Brown re-mustered to 26 Field Regiment in 1936. After training at Fort Frontenac, Kingston and Camp Petawawa he served in 17 Field Regiment and in 1941 was appointed Battery Commander. In February 1943, he was promoted to Acting Lieutenant Colonel and appointed to 1st Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery. He was wounded by shrapnel in the right leg and shoulder and was hospitalized for two months. He was awarded the MBE for his important contribution in breaching the Gustav and Adolph Hitler lines. He was discharged in 1966. After the war, he held many important commands including in Palestine, Egypt, Lebanon, and Viet Nam. He was awarded Member of the Order of the British Empire, Order of St. John, the Canadian Efficiency Decoration, and the Canadian Forces Decoration. Ted has been a member of Fort York Legion Branch 165 for 52 years. BROWNRIGG, Michael Harold Michael was born on February 23, 1915 in Pendleton, Ontario. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on February 22, 1939. He served with No. 410 Squadron, No. 414 Squadron, and No. 426 Squadron in Canada, England and Gibraltar during World War II. He was involved in aerial photography of Canadian North. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force Helicopter Acceptance Crew and was part of the first non-stop flight from Tokyo to Trenton, ON. Michael passed away on January 8, 2008. BROWN, Harry Harry was born on May 10, 1898 in Gananoque, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on August 18, 1916. He served with the 10th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Forces in Canada, Britain and France during World War I. Harry was killed in action on August 17, 1917 at Hill 70, France. Private Brown was awarded the Victoria Cross posthumously for his courage and devotion to duty. He is commemorated at Noeux-Les-Mines Cemetery in France. Harry Brown Legion Branch 497 is named after him and he is commemorated on the cenotaph in Omemee, ON.
