85 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CADE, Patrick W. Patrick was born on March 25, 1959 in St. Marys, Ontario. He joined the Army Reserves for a summer job on June 16, 1977 and is still serving. His service includes training bases in Canada, the United States, and Great Britain, a NATO exercise in Norway and a peace keeping tour in Cyprus in 1989-90. Patrick served with the 4th Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment. CAIN, John E. “Jack” Jack was born on October 13, 1923 in Durham, ON. He enlisted in the Army on March 5, 1943. He served with the Royal Canadian Ordinance Corps in England, France, Sicily, Italy, Belgium, Holland, and Germany in World War II. He was discharged on October 10, 1946. In his civilian life Jack dedicated his life in support of the Rights for all Veterans. He has been Zone A6 Commander, President of Victory Legion Branch 317, and served on various Zone A6 Committees. He received the Meritorious Service Medal with Palm Leaf, the Canada 125th Anniversary Medal, The Queen’s Jubilee Medal and Jack was a proud recipient of the 2006 Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation Medal. Jack passed away on December 11, 2011. CADE, William Z. William was born on October 20, 1893 in Blanshard Township, Ontario. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a pilot trainee in 1918. He trained at various bases in Ontario, including Camp Borden and Beamsville. He did not serve overseas but was chosen as an instructor for other trainee pilots here in Canada. After leaving the Royal Flying Corps in April 1919, he farmed for the rest of his life south of Rannoch, ON. William passed away on November 8, 1971.
