89 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CAMPBELL, William Warren “Bill” William was born in Braeside, Quebec on August 29, 1910. He enlisted in the RCAF in Trenton circa 1940 and served in England. Warrant Officer Class II William Campbell was killed in the crash of a Lancaster on March 3, 1944 and is buried in Harrogate (Stonefall) Cemetery, Yorkshire, United Kingdom CARNEY, Thomas J. “Tom” Tom was born in Glasgow, Scotland on December 7, 1923. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on December 8, 1941. He completed pilot training in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) in late 1942. He was posted to the Mediterranean theatre. He flew 30 missions from North Africa with 38 Wellington Bomber Squadron, followed by 26 missions on 294 Wellington G.R. Squadron. He was still in the Mediterranean area in 1945 before being posted to Persia and Iraq Force to fly Sunderland Flying Boats. He flew passengers and freight in the Persian Gulf, the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean and to Bahrein, Oman, Yemen and Egypt. He returned to the United Kingdom in February 1946 and flight tested Sunderlands in North Scotland. In July 1946, he re-mustered as a Flying Control Officer at Colerne, England. Tom was discharged on December 7, 1946. CARNEY, A. Robert Robert was born on April 9, 1928 in Peterborough, Ontario. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in April 1949. He was a Navy League Captain during peacetime. He was discharged in November 1951. He was a member of Millbrook Legion Branch 402 for 51 years. Robert passed away on June 27, 2012.
