99 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BROWN, Doug C. Doug was born in London, England on July 19, 1922. He enlisted in the Army in September 1941 and served with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in England and France during World War II. Doug was discharged in December 1945. He currently lives in Orleans, Ontario and is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 632. BROWN, Horace George Horace was born in England on May 26, 1888. He served with the English Army during World War I from 1914 to 1918. In 1941, he volunteered for the Veterans Guard of Canada and was stationed at the German Prisoner of War Camp at Espanola and then moved to A Camp, Lethbridge, AB. He joined the Mount Albert and District Legion Branch 382 following his return at the end of World War II. George passed away in February 1961. BROWN, Douglas Martyn “Doug” Doug was born on June 9, 1925 in Bowmanville, Ontario. His dad served with the Ontario Provincial Police and moved his family to Arnprior when Doug was five years old. Doug attended the local public elementary and high school. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Navy on June 23, 1943. He served in Canada, England and France where he participated in the Battle of the Atlantic (Normandy). He participated in D-Day three days prior to his nineteenth birthday. He returned to Canada and married the love of his life, Helen Barnet. He continued his service in the Naval Reserve in a training capacity for new recruits until the early 1950s. Doug and Helen raised fourteen children. He was discharged on January 7, 1946. After the war, Doug worked at various jobs. He worked for LCBO (18 years) and eventually retired from Boeing Arnprior Division supporting the Shipping/Receiving of products to support DND CH113/113A Search and Rescue /CH147 Chinooks Helicopter fleets and Helicopter. He was very involved in the Arnprior Legion Branch 174 where he played in the Legion pipe Band and assisted in organizing events. He has 25 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Dough currently resides in Groves Park Lodge in Renfrew Ontario where he continues to soldier on.
