103 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BRUNETTE, Joseph A. Joseph was born in Cobalt, Ontario on October 29, 1916. He enlisted in the Army on March 23, 1942 and served with the Royal 22nd Regiment SPT Company – 4 Platoon. Private Brunette served in Canada, United Kingdom, and Continental Europe during World War II. He was discharged on September 10, 1945. His medals include the 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the Defence Medal. He was a member of Cobalt Legion Branch 44 for over thirty years. Joseph passed away on August 11, 1978. BUCKLAND, Frederick Sidney George “Fred” Fred was born in West Ham, England on March 6, 1908. He joined the Canadian Army (A) on March 26, 1943 and became a member of the Ordnance Corps. He trained in Canada, Great Britain and finally went to Continental Europe on active duty during World War II. Unfortunately he was hit by shrapnel. His wound was serious and he was unable to continue on active duty. Fred was honourably discharged on January 12, 1944.He later worked as a pipe fitter, and a commissionaire in Ottawa. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Cornwall and Ottawa. Fred passed away at the age of 82 on August 14, 1990 and his body was donated for research. He was cremated and buried in North Branch cemetery, Martinville, Ontario. BRYAN, Percy A. Percy was born in Walford, Ontario on June 8, 1920. He enlisted in the Army on March 22, 1942. He served with the Toronto Irish Regiment of Canada in England, France, Holland, Belgium and Germany during World War II. Private Bryan was wounded by sniper fire and was shot in the mouth in 1944 and spent the rest of the war as a prisoner until 1945 when he was released. He was discharged on August 23, 1945 and was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the France and Germany Star, the 1939-45 Star and the War Medal 1939-45. He was a member of Wawa Legion Branch 429 for 66 years. Percy passed away on June 30, 2011.
