109 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BURBERRY, Stewart A. Stewart was born in Horley, Surrey, England on October 28, 1944. He enlisted in the Army in February 1965 and served with the 1st Battalion R.H. Black Watch. He served in Norway in 1966 with NATO doing Artic Survival and also did the Canadian Armed Forces Tattoo in 1967. Stewart was discharged in February 1968. After his time in the Army he was a paramedic. Stewart has been a member of Forest Legion Branch 176 for 21 years. BURKHOLDER, Donald Ralph Donald was born in 1924. He worked at the Clarke Hockey Stick Factory and then for Sunshine Manufacturing, a munitions plant. Badly hurt in an accident there, he spent his 19th birthday in the Kitchener Hospital. While in hospital, he received his call to serve, but could not report because of his injuries. In January 1944, he enlisted and trained in Chatham and Ipperwash. In July 1944, Don was sent to England and on to France with The South Saskatchewan Regiment. He received shrapnel wounds in his leg a month later, and spent his 20th birthday in the army hospital in England. He returned to France on September 18, six weeks after being wounded. He was killed in action on October 29, 1944; he was twenty years of age. He is buried in the Schoonselhof Cemetery in Antwerp, Belgium. Memorial Park in Breslau, ON is named in his honour. BURKE, Lindsay John Lindsay was born in Massey, Ontario on October 26, 1949. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces on February 27, 1969 and served as Military Policeman at Comox, British Columbia. He was honourably discharged in January 1972. Lindsay was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. He lives and works in Elliot Lake, Ontario as a Real Estate Broker and is a proud member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 561 serving as Color Party, Sergeant at Arms and Parade Marshall.
