119 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CARTER, Frederick Arthur Frederick was born in New Dale, Manitoba on January 13, 1917. When he enlisted in the Navy on July 21, 1943, he was already married to the former Dorothy Johnson and father of a two year old son. Another son was born during the war. He served with HMCS Prevost as Stoker First Class in Canada during World War II. He was discharged on December 20, 1945. After discharge, Fred was employed at Imperial Oil as a process operator. During these busy years, Fred found the time to pitch for the Imperial Soft Ball team, and take up flying and sailing. Another son was added in 1954. He loved hunting and fishing in Northern, Ontario. At the time of his death, Fred was a long-time member of the Sarnia Yacht Club. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Sarnia Branch 62. Frederick passed away on November 8, 1988. CASS, John C. John was born in Elderslie Township, Bruce County, Ontario on July 19, 1893. He enlisted in the Army in January 1916 and served with the 160th Battalion in Canada, England and France during World War I. He was discharged in March 1919 and became a member of Chesley Legion Branch 144. John passed away in 1982. CASKANETTE, Chad Edward Chad was born on April 4, 1978 in Woodstock, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on September 13, 2005 at London Wolseley Barracks and transferred to Camp Borden for basic training then to Meaford for Soldier Qualification. He received further training at camp Gagetown, New Brunswick. Chad served with 1st RCR Battle Group India Company. He went to Afghanistan in 2007 and 2010 for ten months and to Cyprus in 2012 for two months. Chad was a LAV operator in Kandahar City and rural area on reconnaissance patrols. His team spent time in the Panjaws 1 District.
