121 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CATERER, Charles E. Charles was born in Madoc, Ontario on September 6, 1942. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy on October 7, 1959 and served with Atlantic Command. Charles qualified for Submarine service in 1967. He was discharged on September 6, 1997. His awards include the CD2 and NATO Special Service Medals, and most Competent Instructor Fleet School Jan-Jun 1978. CAVENER, Douglas Douglas was born in Montreal, Quebec on July 24, 1939. He enlisted in the Army in 1956. He started his military career at fifteen years old in the Cadets, the Militia and, finally, the regular force in four different units: 1 RCR, 2 RCR, 3 Mechanized Commando, and Administration. After two tours of United Nations Peacekeeping duties in Cyprus in 1966, he was stationed in Soest, Germany where he pulled a man from a burning car at an accident scene and saved his life. He was later invested at Rideau Hall, Ottawa for his heroism and received the MMM. On returning to Canada, he remustered to Administration at CFB Borden. His decorations include the MMM/Member of Military Merit Award, the Canadian Forces Decoration with Clasp, Para Badge, Querus Jubilee, Peacekeeping Medal Cyprus 2 tours, ALERT, NWT. Doug has been a Legion member since 1977 in the following branches: London Victory 317, West Lorne 286, Sturgeon Falls, North Bay, back to Victory, and Oil Springs 535. CATERER, Raymond John Raymond was born in Stoke-on-Trent, New Castle, Staffordshire, England on November 5, 1918. He enlisted in the Army on February 12, 1943 and served with the Canadian Armoured Corps, Royal Canadian Dragoons, 1st Armoured Car Regiment in the United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean area and Continental Europe during World War II. Raymond was discharged on February 13, 1946 and was awarded the 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He was a member of Madoc Legion Branch 363. Raymond passed away on March 4, 1992.
