His dream of defending Canada was indeed a long shot. Inspired by his family’s military involvement, Frank joined the Sault reserves at 13, hoping to follow in their footsteps. His father, John Correy survived capture by the Germans in WWI. His older brother Jack, a much decorated war veteran of the front lines, joined the Toronto Scottish Regiment for active service overseas and the Dieppe invasion. At 15, Frank Correy was too young to join his older brother Jack overseas. He enlisted in the Sault Ste. Marie – Sudbury Regiment on August 28, 1939, however he was returned to the Reserve Army (underage) on November 20, 1939. Frank did not let his discharge to the Reserve Army end his dream of serving with his bother Jack overseas. He continued his training at Niagara on the Lake, Nanaimo in 1942 and Vernon, BC in 1943 and 1944. He graduated from the officer’s school in Vernon, BC as Lieutenant, and was assigned to the West Coast Command in Ucluelet and Tofino. Following this posting, Frank served in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe until the end of the War in 1945. He was a member of Sault Ste. Marie Legion Branch 25 for 75 years.
