151 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CRAWFORD, William Kenneth Sgt William Kenneth Crawford was born on July 5, 1921 to farmers William and Leola (Atkinson) on the 9th Concession of Arran Township and he was the second oldest of six children. His mother Leola passed away at the age of 36. Ken worked at Georg Lindès fruit orchard at Arkwright until he left to pick tobacco in Vineland. After the fall harvest, he delivered milk for the local dairy. In 1938, at the age of seventeen, he enlisted in the Army and joined the Argyle and Sutherland Canada Corp in London. He trained across Canada from Prince Rupert, British Columbia to New Brunswick and on to London, England. He served in Germany, Holland and France during World War II. He was discharged in 1946. Ken married Inez (Riebel) in 1947 and had four children. He worked in Owen Sound until he bought a farm in 1951 and moved his family across the road from where his brother was farming the family farm. He stayed there until his retirement in 1981, moving to Tara and residing there until his death. He was a member of Tara Legion Branch 383 for 53 years. Kenneth passed away on October 8, 2004. CROUCHER, Victor G. Victor was born in Craigie Lea, Muskoka, Ontario on December 27, 1918. He enlisted in the Army and served with the Royal Canadian Dragoons – Tank Corps in England and Holland during World War II. He became a member of Peninsula Legion Branch 489 when it was created. Victor passed away on July 26, 1984. CRAYSTON, Kerry M. Kerry was born in Toronto, Ontario on May 19, 1924. He enlisted in the Air Force in June 1943 and served with the 115 Squadron RAF (RCAF) in England and Germany during World War II. On November 15, 1944, Kerry was a tail-gunner in a Lancaster on their 29th mission, the Dortmund mission, when the entire crew perished in a mid-air collision over their target. Pilot Officer Crayston is commemorated at Reichswald Forest War Cemetery in Germany.
