157 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DALE, James Fredrick “Fred” Fred was born in Beeton, Ontario on August 13, 1920. He enlisted in the RCAF on August 9 1941, receiving his training at CFB Trenton. He was assigned to the 420 Squadron RCAF, Leading Aircraftman (LAC) during World War II. With Fred’s experience with owning his own bake shop in Beeton before the war, he was assigned as a Baker. Fred’s tour with the 420 included airfields in England and to North Africa in 1943. Fred’s crossings from Canada to England included the ships Queen Elizabeth, Lady Rodney and Aquitania. Fred was discharged on August 28, 1946 returning to his home town of Beeton with his war bride, WAAF Nora (Rogerson) and daughter Joyce and raising a family of five children. Fred received the Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal 19391945 and War Medal 1939-1945. He was a life member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 421, Beeton for 58 years. Fred passed away on April 5, 2004. DALLING, James C. James was born in Westville, Nova Scotia on May 29, 1936. He enlisted in the Army on June 27, 1957 and served with the 1st Canadian Guard and the 2nd Canadian Guard. He served in Germany (3 years), Cypress (2 tours) and Alert NWT as well as on #206 HMCS Saguenay. James was discharged on March 30, 1989. He has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for 26 years. DALE (ROGERSON), Nora Nora was born in Miles Green, Staffordshire, England on October 16, 1922. She enlisted in the WAAF’s on May 16, 1941 and was stationed at Royal Air Force bases in northern England including Driffield and Holme-on-Spalding-Moor in Yorkshire during World War II. She advanced to the rank of Sergeant. Nora was posted to “Messing” in the bomber command. She was discharged on March 3, 1945. Nora married RCAF Fred Dale and was one of many thousands of war brides. Nora, with eighteen month old daughter Joyce, left Liverpool on the Letitia arriving at pier 21 in Halifax on September 11, 1946 then to Fred’s hometown of Beeton, Ontario. In later years, before November 11, Nora could be seen presenting Remembrance Day speeches to schools, seniors and church groups. Nora received the Defence Medal, War Medal, National Service Medal (British) and RAF Commemorative Medal. She was a Life Member of Beeton Legion Branch 421 and Charter Life Member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Nora passed away on December 6, 2006 in Orangeville, Ontario.
