161 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DARBY, William William was born in Stoke Goldington, Buckinghamshire, England on January 8, 1859. He enlisted in the Militia at the age of seventeen and in the Army on July 19, 1881. He served as Grenadier Guard in England and was a soldier in the 2nd Battalion. William served in the Egyptian Campaign in 1882, and fought in South Africa. William moved to Canada in 1893 and during service with the Canadian Army in WWI he guarded prisoners in Kapuskasing, Ont. After being discharged he worked as a farm labourer and train signalman. He was a member of the Sons of England Lodge. His medals include #223 Khedives Bronze, decorated by Queen Victoria; Star 1882-91; Egyptian Campaign 1882-85. William passed away on January 17, 1944. DAVIDSON, Lloyd Henry Lloyd was born on the family farm in Scugog Township, Ontario on July 31, 1923. He joined the Air Force in Toronto on March 23, 1941. Later, he transferred to the Army due to vision problems and served with the Governor General Horse Guards in Canada, Holland and England until the end of the war. He had the chance to go to Pacific War and accepted. While on thirty days leave, he was allowed to go home to Canada on the 28th Day the war ended. He was stationed in Toronto for eighteen months. When he was discharged and came home he got a job in General Motors in Oshawa, ON. He met a girl who became his wife and they had three children. He retired after thirty years of service. He was a member of Oshawa Legion Branch 43. Lloyd passed away on December 1, 2000. DAVIDSON, Daniel C. Pte Daniel Davidson was born on July 6, 1962 in Trenton, Ontario. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on April 14, 1981. He served as a medical assistant in 1982 at National Defence Medical Center in Ottawa, Ontario and was posted to CFB Trenton Base Hospital from 1983 to 1985. Daniel was honourably discharged on June 19, 1985. He had a special interest in orthopaedics leading to a career as a Registered Orthopaedic Technologist from the Canadian Society of Orthopaedic Technologists in civilian life. Daniel now lives a quiet life on Rice Lake.
