179 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DUBUC, Pierre Joseph Pierre was born in Crystal Falls on September 20, 1919. He enlisted in the Army on May 20, 1941 and served with the Essex Scottish Division 2 during World War II. While serving in the Army, he was an excellent scout and sniper sharp shooter, always ahead of the troops. He was discharged on May 29, 1946 and was awarded the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the War Medal 1939-45 and the Netherlands Commemorative Medal. After his return, he married Rolande Faucon in 1952 and continued farming on the homeland. He was the proud father of Richard, Gisele, Pierrette, Agnes, Patrick, Roland and Ginette. He would be quite pleased that one grandson has joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was a member of Sturgeon Falls Legion Branch 225 for 47 years. Pierre passed away on July 20, 2003. DUFF, George Hunt George was born on December 15, 1894 in New Lowell, Ontario. He lied about his age and joined the Army on December 11, 1915 at the age of fifteen. He served with the 157th BH CEF in England and in France. He was injured in World War I in his shoulder and left foot. He was shot twice. He was discharged on February 20, 1919. George sent a diamond ring in an envelope to Scotland to the lassie he met named Davina Roy Taylor. He met her in Toronto on October 30, 1919 and married her at city hall. They lived in Toronto where George became a street car conductor, and they had their first child, William James Duff (whom joined the navy and became a Flight Lieutenant). Later George and Davina moved back to New Lowell where George tried his hand at farming. He had another child, Margaret Olive born February 4, 1925. He sold the farm, still a young man and built in New Lowell and also had a general store and a post office. George became the Post Master until he retired at age 75. He passed away on December 11, 1976. Davina died January 22, 1963 and as a legion member George found solace there. They later named the legion “The George Duff Memorial” Branch 516 where he became the first life member. George passed away on December 11, 1976. DUCHARME, Conrad Joseph Conrad was born in Emo, Ontario in August 1912. He enlisted in the Army early in World War II and served with the PPCLI for almost three years in Sicily and Italy. He returned home and was discharged at the end of the war. He lived in Fort Frances for a few years after the war where he was employed as a Game Warden. Conrad moved to the Richmond Hill area in 1950. His brother Odo also served with the PPCLI during World War II. He was a member of Spring Garden Legion Branch 66 for 25 years. Conrad passed away in August 1977.
