181 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DUKES, Frank Frank was born in Scagglethorpe, York, England on April 4, 1910. He enlisted in the Army in 1939 and served with the Forestry Corps in England during World War II. Returning to Canada, Frank continued farming until 1966. He retired to Foam Lake Saskatchewan. He found peace and a great love for plants, flowers and trees. He learned the art of grafting which enabled him to establish a small orchard on his farm. He was a member of Foam Lake, Saskatchewan Legion Branch 16. Frank passed away on October 25, 1991. DUNBAR, Walter S. Walter was born in Newton, Ontario on May 14, 1916. He enlisted in the Air Force on February 20, 1942 and served in Canada during World War II. Corporal Dunbar was a radio operator serving at No. 5 Radar Detachment. The station was situated on Torbay, approximately 125 miles east of Halifax and was part of the “Pinetree Line”. The small community of Queensport was located six miles to the north on Chedabucto Bay. Walter was discharged on October 5, 1945. He was a member of Stratford Legion Branch 8 for 55 years. Walter passed away on July 4, 2004. DUNBAR (SMITH), Miriam I. Miriam was born in Startford, Ontario on February 6, 1921. She enlisted in the Navy in November 1944 and served in Canada on HMCS Stadacona and HMCS Scotian during World War II. Miriam was discharged in April 1946.
