183 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND EAGLES (WATSON), Jean Vance Jean was born in Erin Township, Wellington County, Ontario on September 21, 1924. She enlisted in the RCAF in 1942 at the age of eighteen and reported to Ottawa, Ontario on the December 4, 1942 for her basic training. Jean served at a number of bases in Ontario and Quebec. By 1944, as a Leading Air Woman, she was on the Headquarters Staff at the wireless school in Guelph, Ontario. She transferred to Hamilton and was trained as a military nurse. She gained considerable experience treating the returning servicemen and became well-known for her compassionate care. Jean received her discharge in 1945 and enrolled in a nursing course as her military experience did not qualify in the post-war era. After three years training, she graduated as a Registered Nurse in Hamilton, Ontario; head of her class of fifty-three. Jean was an excellent patient care and operating room nurse. In the 1950s she married Clarence Eagles and together they raised a family of three. She was a member of Erin Legion Branch 442 for 34 years. Jean passed away on June 17, 2002. EBY, David Bechtel “Dave” David was born in Tara, Ontario on October 3, 1926. At the age of eighteen, Dave served in the Canadian Army for six months prior to the end of World War II in May 1945. He was stationed at a camp in New Brunswick and was then sent back to Toronto for discharge in October 1945. Dave married Kelly and together they raised four sons. He worked for the Kitchener Waterloo Record as a linotype operator and maintenance repairman. Dave and Kelly retired in Wiarton, Ontario. Dave has been a member of Wiarton Legion Branch 208 for 34 years. EBERTS, Ronald A. Ronald was born in Chemainus, BC on August 17, 1929. He enlisted in the Army in July 1950 and served with the PPCLI 2nd Battalion during the Korean War. He transferred to Provotent as Regimental Police to escort a prisoner to Kobe Japan. He was a member of Special Forces and parachuted behind enemy lines to eliminate ammunition and fuel dump. Once completed, he was air lifted into C47 by way of cargo net. He received a citation from Korea and US Forces for participating in the Korean War. Ronald was discharged in February 1952. He has been a member of Westboro Legion Branch 480 for thirty years.
