197 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND FEOR, Patrick Patrick was born in Thorold, Ontario on October 4, 1917. He enlisted in the Army in February 1942 and served with the 65 Tank Transportation Company in England, Holland and Germany during World War II. He was discharged in August 1945. After the war, Patrick returned to work at General Motors in St. Catharines where he worked before going into the military and was credited his army service time toward his GM seniority. He has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for 69 years. FIRTH, Herbert “Herb” Herb was born on October 10, 1922 in Brantford, ON. He joined the Navy in London, ON on June 3, 1942. While training , he met Helen Reinhart, whom he married on November 11, 1942. He served onboard HMCS Cornwallis and HMCS Baddeck, where he did convoy and escort duty in Ireland, Scotland and England. On November 27, orders were given to sail to Gibraltar with an important convoy consisting of sixty merchant vessels, all of which were loaded with supplies and equipment for Armies in North Africa. On April 3 they left the convoy heading across the Grand Banks and sailed on to Halifax. Following his European tour of duty, Herb was reassigned to the HMCS Baddeck and spent time in the Bermuda area. He was honourably discharged in August 1945. Upon his return, he settled in Woodstock and in 1952, moved to London. Herb and Helen raised their family of six boys and one girl. He worked for Westminster Hospital for many years and later as a letter carrier until his retirement. Herb passed away on November 18, 2013. FINN, Herbert S. Herbert was born in Chesley, Ontario on April 12, 1892. He enlisted in the Army on April 10, 1915 and served with the Canadian Infantry, 34 Battalion in Canada, England and France during World War I. Herbert was killed in action on August 20, 1919 in France.
