23 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ACREMAN, Ruby H. Ruby was born in Star City, Saskatchewan on April 4, 1922. She enlisted in the Army and served as Lance Corporal in Canada with the C.W.A.C. during World War II. She qualified for trades and General Service. Ruby met her husband Bill, who served with the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment during the war and were married after the war. She was a Life Member of the Harry Brown V.C. Legion Branch 497. Ruby passed away on November 10, 2004. ADAMS, Donald C. Donald was born in Bristol, England on July 19, 1914. He enlisted in the Army on September 13, 1939 and served in England, France, North Africa, Sicily and Italy with the 1st Canadian Division during World War II. He was discharged on April 14, 1944. Donald left England at the age of eighteen on a Church Welfare Program arriving in Canada via Pier 21 in Halifax, and worked his way to Martyrs Shrine in Midland, Ontario where he worked on a farm. From Midland, he moved to a farm near Stratford where he returned after the war and married Doris Tier. They had three children, James, Mary and William. Despite being wounded in the war, he ran a 150 acre mixed farm and was the first war veteran in Perth County to complete his ten year period under the Veteran’s Land Act. Don was active in his church, being both treasurer and elder. He enjoyed life to the fullest and loved to see his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He passed away at Wildwood Nursing Home in St. Marys on January 27, 2012. ACREMAN, William A. “Bill” Bill was born in Toronto, Ontario on June 8, 1915. He enlisted in the Army and served with the Hastings and Prince Edward Co. Reg. He served during World War II in Canada, England, Sicily, Italy, Holland and Northwest Europe. He was promoted to Sergeant and was reduced in rank, promoted to Sergeant again and was again reduced in rank. A pre-war enlistment, Bill served the entire six years of the war with his regiment. They were one of the last regiment to return from overseas. He met his wife, Ruby (who was a C.W.A.C.), during the war and they were married when he returned from overseas. Bill’s father, Albert, served in World War I and World War II. He was a Life Member of the Harry Brown V.C. Legion Branch 497 for 56 years and was a Life Member. Bill passed away on April 22, 2005.
