31 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ALLAN, William McKay “Bill” William was born in Glasgow, Scotland on October 9, 1918. He moved to Hamilton, Ontario with his family when he was twelve years old. Bill joined the Royal Canadian Navy and fought in the Pacific on the HMCS Uganda during World War II. After the war ended, Bill returned to Hamilton and worked for the Hamilton Police Department. He married Mary Chrapan and they had two sons. Bill passed away on November 5, 1965 from complications from surgery. He was Sargent of Detectives at the time of his death and also devoted much of his spare time to minor league sports. Bill was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. ALLISON, John Oliver “Ollie” Ollie was born in Maxwell, Ontario on August 10, 1891. He enlisted in the Army and the Air Force in 1916 and served during World War I in Canada, Britain and Mesopotamia with the 162 Battalion, Canadian Infantry – seconded to RAF. Ollie was killed in action in 1916 over Baghdad, Mesopotamia. Ollie was studying at the University of Toronto planning on becoming a doctor. He was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry and devotion to duty. This was presented to his father, Joseph Allison of Maxwell. ALLEN, John Hamilton “Jack” Jack was born in Surrey, England on April 12, 1879. He joined the British Army at the age of sixteen and was involved in the Boer War. He immigrated to Canada and joined the GGFG’s “B” Company as Private. He was transferred to the 43rd Regiment (Duke of Cornwall’s Own Rifles) which later became the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He provided training to troops prior to their departure to Britain. Jack passed away on May 29, 1966.
