35 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND AMORGOWICH, Peter Peter was born in Brandon, Manitoba on February 7, 1925. In August 1943, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and was assigned to Night Fighter Squadron 406. While on leave, he met his future wife, Pauline, in London, Ontario. Peter was stationed in various RAF airfields in southwest England, including Predannack, Exeter, Winkleigh and Manson, where he worked as an airframe mechanic servicing DeHavilland Mosquito Bombers. Peter was discharged in October 1945, and together with his brother Corporal John Amorgowich, was repatriated to Canada on the SS Pasteur. Returning to civilian life in London, they formed the Morgy Trucking Company and delivered building materials. In 1952, Peter joined CP Rail as a fireman on steam engines, and retired as a locomotive engineer in 1986. He and Pauline had their two daughters and resided in London until 1969, when they moved to their newly built home in Delaware, Ontario. Peter has been a member of Delaware Legion Branch 598 for over 50 years. ANDERSON, J. A. Wilfrid Wilfrid was born in Schreiber, Ontario on February 13, 1909. He enlisted in the Air Force and served during World War II from 1940 to 1945, reaching the rank of Corporal. He served in Canada: Rockcliffe/Ottawa, ON and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. He did office work in the RCAF, much as he had done in civilian life. He always said that he “flew a typewriter during the Battle of Rockcliffe”. After the war he returned to work in the freight department of the CNR in Kapuskasing, ON. He was a devoted Legion member and was especially particular about getting his “Early Bird” membership every year. Wilfrid was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for 33 years. Because of his service in World War II, his son is a 40-year Associate Member of the Legion. Wilfrid passed away on March 15, 1978. AMOS, William W. William was born in Mulvihill, Manitoba on July 18, 1921. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on April 7, 1940 and served in the motor division with the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment in France, Italy, Germany and England during World War II. He was discharged on December 12, 1945. He was awarded the Volunteer Star, the Italy Star and the France and Germany Star. He moved to Wawa where he was very active in Branch 429, serving all offices plus president. He worked at Wawa Home Hardware as clerk. He was a member of the Dryden Legion Branch 63 for six years and Wawa Branch 429 for fourteen years. William passed away on December 6, 1972.
