41 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ARMSTRONG, Harold Harold was born in Montreal, Quebec on November 29, 1922. He enlisted in the Army on December 10, 1942 and served with the RCASC in Canada, England and Northwest Europe during World War II. He was discharged on March 15, 1946. Harold was awarded the 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal and the Volunteer Star with Clasp. At the end of the war he moved to Hawk Junction and worked in operations at Algoma Ore Division. He was involved in the Legion and was a member of the Wawa Legion Branch 429 for sixty years. Harold passed away on November 21, 2010. ARMSTRONG (KLASSEN), Margaret Margaret was born in Rymerhoff, Russia on October 8, 1912 and immigrated to Canada in 1924. Her family settled in New Hamburg, Ontario. She enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served with the Canadian Nursing Service during World War II. She served in Europe where she met and married her husband, Walter Atlee Armstrong, in October of 1943. She was discharged in 1944. After the war, she continued to live in England until the death of her husband in 1961. In 1962, she returned to Canada and lived the rest of her life in New Hamburg. Lieutenant Margaret Armstrong was awarded the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, Clasp to the CVSM, the War Medal 1939-45, and the General Service Badge. Margaret was the mother of four children. In her 50’s she returned to her nursing career. She passed away on December 18, 1972 at the age of 62. ARMSTRONG (TAPLIN), Jessie I. Jessie was born in Vankoughnet/Bracebridge on April 4, 1915. She enlisted in the Army on February 15, 1943 and served during World War II as a Lieutenant with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. She served in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. On May 4, 1944, Jessie sailed to Liverpool from Canada, where she was posted to the #4 Cdn General Hospital. On April 4, 1945 she was transferred to #1 Cdn General Hospital in Nijmegen, Holland. She was discharged on November 28, 1945. She was awarded the France and Germany Star and the Defence Medal. She was a member of the Espanola Legion Branch 39. Jessie passed away on February 5, 1995.
