45 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ARNOLD, Glen H. Glen was born on June 4, 1974 in Sudbury, Ontario. In 1992, he joined the 2nd Battalion of the Irish Regiment of Canada in Sudbury. He took his Medical Technician training at CFB Borden in 1997. In 1998, he transferred to the Regular Force Unit, 2 Field Ambulance at Petawawa. In 2001, he went to Bosnia Herzegovina as part of NATO led Operation Palladium. In 2003/2004, he was on Operation Apollo Camp Julien in Afghanistan. In 2005, he deployed to Sri Lanka (Operation Structure). In 2006, he went back to Afghanistan attached to an Infantry Unit from 2 PPCLI, Operation Medusa. On September 18, 2006 Glen was killed in action in the Panjwai Region by a suicide bomber. His medals include the Sacrifice Medal, General Campaign Star, SSM Humanitas Bar, CDN Peacekeeping Svc Medal, NATO Medal for the Balkans, NATO Stabilization Force Medal and the Canadian Forces Decoration. His final resting place is in St Columbia Cemetery at Pembroke, Ontario. ARRAND, Clifford R. Clifford was born in Adelaide Township, Ontario on December 28, 1917. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on November 19, 1939 at London, Ontario. After training in Woodstock and Petawawa, he sailed overseas onboard the New Amsterdam headed for Belgium and was stationed at Leopold Barracks, a reinforcement centre. After stressful combat training, he served with the 95th Battalion 2nd Division as a Gunner for B Company with the Essex Scottish Regiment from Windsor. He was also stationed in Germany at Nuremberg prison as a guard and witnessed the High Command of the German Forces brought in. His regiment travelled across Holland and made their way to Calais, France, to cross the English Channel where they witnessed the white cliffs of Dover, England. He returned to Halifax onboard the HMS Queen Elizabeth. Clifford’s medals include the 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the War Medal 1939-45. Clifford was discharged on February 22, 1946 at the rank of Private. He passed away on December 17, 2013. ARNOLD, William Bruce William was born in Toronto, Ontario on November 13, 1922. He enlisted in the Navy in May of 1943 and served onboard the HMCS Stadacona, Venture, Royal Roads and Cornwallis in Canada during World War II. In 1953, he was sent to Chalk River, ON to help in the decontamination of a nuclear reactor. He worked inside the calandria for a half-day removing the bars of lead which had been exposed to heavy water and were highly radioactive. In that half-day, he received an amount of radiation equivalent to what a worker would receive in one year of normal work around the reactor. As a result of that, he received a handsome honorarium. He was discharged in October of 1968. William is a member of the Ridgetown Legion Branch.
