55 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND AUSTIN, Leo George Leo was born in Capreol, Ontario in July 1922. He enlisted in the Army in 1940 and served as a Gunner in the Canadian Tank Corp in Canada during World War II. After his discharge in 1945 he was a CNR Conductor for years. Leo died of a heart attack in July 1968 at the age of 46. AUSTIN, Ross Norman Ross was born in Capreol, Ontario in August 1919. He enlisted in the Army in 1939 and served as an engineer in England and France during World War II. Ross was shell-shocked while serving in England; the Germans were dropping V2 unmanned bombs. He never fully recovered. He was a member of Capreol Legion Branch 179. Ross passed away in January 1998. AUSTIN, Norman Norman was born in Port Hope, Ontario on December 9, 1891. He enlisted in the Army in 1914 and served as Machine Gunner riding the side-car of Motorcycles with the 1st Cdn Battalion M. G. Corp in England, France, Belgium and Germany during World War I. Norman also played trumpet in the army band. He was discharged in 1918. Norman served as a Canadian Railway Conductor for over 50 years as well as an honourable mason for years. He was a member of Capreol Legion Branch 179. Norman passed away on November 7, 1980 and was given a military funeral. All the Veterans put poppies in his casket.
