65 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BALDWIN, Norman Scarlett Norman was born in Toronto, Ontario on April 27, 1920. He enlisted in the Air Force and trained as a pilot during World War II. He wished to go overseas but was told he was needed here as an RCAF Instructor. He spent part of his time training students at Dunnville, Ontario. After the war, he worked for the Department of Fisheries in Canada and the USA. He was instrumental in developing the successful lamprey control program in the Great Lakes. Norman passed away on March 9, 1971. BARONETTE, Raymond A. Raymond was born in Cache Bay, Ontario on November 17, 1939. He enlisted in the Army on March 15, 1957 and served with the 7th Battalion Canadian Guards in Canada and Germany during Peacetime. Raymond was discharged on April 13, 1960. He has been a member of Wawa Legion Branch 429 for ten years. BARNETT, Gordon W. Gordon was born on RR #1, St Marys, Ontario on February 27, 1925. His parents were Isaac and Mary Barnett and his home farm remains on the East Mitchell Road. Gordon was a Blanchard Township farm boy who joined the Army out of high school on October 12, 1943. He served with the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion in Canada and Germany during World War II. He participated in Operation Varsity, an Allied airborne assault over the Rhine River in Wesel, Germany. Gordon was one of more than 16,000 paratroopers that jumped as part of the operation. He was killed in action at twenty years of age, on March 24, 1945 in Wesel, Germany.
