75 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BEAUCHAMP, Roger Roger was born in 1937. He joined the Canadian Army in 1953 at age sixteen under the Soldier Apprentice Training Program. Graduating from the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers’ vehicle technical program in 1955, Roger was posted to various locations across Canada during his career including Petawawa, Valcartier, Kingston, Ottawa, and Fort Churchill, MB. During his career, he was deployed to the Gaza Strip in 1957, to Cyprus in 1964, to Egypt in 1974, and to Golan Heights in 1978. He also toured with the Armed Forces Tattoo as part of the 8th Canadian Hussars Ferret Team in 1967. Sergeant Beauchamp was promoted to the rank of WO in 1972 and to the rank of MWO in 1975. He retired in 1993 at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer with 40 years of service. Roger is an active member of Eastview Legion Branch 462. BECKER, John H. John was born in Bentinck Township, Grey County, Ontario on January 20, 1881. He enlisted in the Army on January 10, 1916 and served with the 1st Battalion, Canadian Infantry in Canada, England and France during World War I. John was killed in action on September 1, 1918 in France and is buried at Aubigny Communal Cemetery Extension, France. BECIGNEUL, Gerard J. “Gerry” Gerry was born in Windsor, Ontario on February 1, 1932. He enlisted in the military service on June 6, 1951 and served with the 81st Field Regiment, 216 Battery of the Royal Canadian Artillery. He was promoted to the rank of Bombardier. The regiment travelled to Korea in early spring 1953. He was assigned to Charley Company of the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Canadian Infantry Regiment as artillery observer. Subsequent to the ceasefire on July 27, 1953, the 81st Field Regiment served as Peacekeepers until their departure for Canada in May 1954. Gerry was awarded the Korea Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Canadian Peacekeeping Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and also, the Ambassador for Peace Medal from the Korean Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, Republic of Korea. Following his release from military service, Gerry retired after forty years of service with the Canadian Salt Company at the Ojibway Salt Mine. He now resides at Leamington, Ontario. He is a member of Leamington Legion Branch 84.
