79 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BELL, James Ezra James was born in Jasper, Ontario on January 16, 1920. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on July 18, 1941 and was discharged on May 2, 1946 at the rank of LAC. James served with 436 Sqdn RAF in Canada, the United Kingdom and India. He was highly trained as a Fabric Worker and Safety Inspector for the Parachutes. He was awarded the CVSM and Clasp, the 1939-45 Star and the Burma Star. At the end of his service, James returned to the family farm in Jasper, where he married the love of his life Miss Dorothy Mildred Cardiff and raised a wonderful family of three children. James had been a proud member of the Toledo Royal Canadian Legion Branch 475 and has had the honour of laying the Remembrance Day Wreath for Canada at the Toledo War Memorial for many years. James passed away January 20, 2016 BERLINGUETTE, Raoul Raoul was born on June 15, 1932 in Chute a Blondeau, Ontario. He joined the Army at eighteen years old in Ottawa and did basic training at Camp Borden. He then went to R22R 1st Bat. Comp. B. Comp B. did the winter indoctrination course in Churchill, Manitoba, and then the Paratroopers course in Rivers and Shilo, MB. He was then transferred to Company BN – HQ Battalion Headquarters, did escort duties for intelligence section and spent one year in Korea with Scout and Snipers. Raoul was wounded in action by shrapnel in his right hand and left knee and spent one week in Seoul Korea Hospital and then two weeks in Kure Japan Hospital followed by two months convalescence in Hiro, Japan. Raoul then went back to Korea and was sent to Uijongbu at a NCO’s refresher course school as a tech store man to finish his Korean year. Raoul joined the Army on October 24, 1950 and was released on November 25, 1953 at the rank of Private. After being released he worked for Northern Electric Co. for 32 years in Lachine, QC. He has been a member of 472 Hawkesbury, ON for 29 years. BELL, Robert H. Robert was born in St. Catharines, Ontario in October 1921. Bob’s military career started in the Army, moved to the Air Force and back to the Army. He enlisted in the Army during World War II on November 23, 1943, but was sent to the RCAF as an air crew candidate. During air crew training late in the war, he was sent as day labour to work in a canning factory and shortly was given his release from the RCAF. He was recruited to serve in the Army in the Pacific but when war ended, he was sent to northern Ontario to guard German POWs. He was discharged on August 9, 1946. Bob returned to St. Catharines where he worked in production control at General Motors and went on to a distinguished career on city council and the board of the Shaver Hospital. He has been a member of the H T Church Legion Branch 24 for 55 years.
