89 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BOULIANNE, James Gaston “Jim” Jim was born in Kapuskasing, Ontario on June 17, 1932. He enlisted in the Army on January 8, 1951 and fought with the Royal 22nd Regiment in the Korean War. He served in Canada, extreme orient and Korea. On patrol one night, his friend stepped on a landmine and was killed while Jim was severely wounded with shrapnel and was hospitalized for a long time. He was discharged on June 16, 1952 and received the Korean Medal and Service of United Nations Medal. After returning to Kapuskasing, he married Germaine Hachez and started a family. He moved to Wawa in 1956 to work for the township of Michipicoten, he retired there and passed away on December 8, 1996. Jim was a member of Wawa Legion Branch 429 for forty years. BOVA, Alfred Anthony Alfred was born on November 26, 1919 in Toronto, Ontario. He entered the war on April 9, 1942 with the Canadian Armoured Corps and was stationed at Kitchener for basic training. From there, Alfred went on to Stratford for advanced training and then onto Camp Borden in the Ordinance Corp where he was made Corporal. One of his hobbies while in training was wood working where he made model tanks. Alfred was discharged from the Army on December 15, 1945 and returned to civilian life. Alfred was married in August 1941 to Nancy Rita DiNova and they had four children. After discharge, Alfred went to work for Wilson’s Brothers as a fashion Designer of women’s clothes in downtown Toronto. He was there for 45 years, and still continues to make patterns and alterations today to keep active. Alfred has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 547 in Belle Ewart/Lefroy for eight years. BOURDON, Valmyre A. Valmyre was born in Ottawa, Ontario on August 24, 1924. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served in Canada during World War II. He was an aircraft mechanic at CFB Summerside, PEI. His barracks was next to the airstrip so he lived with the sounds of engines revving up to take off. He loved the planes but suffered hearing loss as a result in later years. He was discharged in 1944. Valmyre passed away on August 2, 2013.
