95 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BRANDON, Alexander Alexander was born in Warwick Township, Ontario on March 17, 1922. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on August 24, 1942. He served with the 48th Bty L.A.A. with the rank of Sgt Instructor but reverted rank in August 1944 to go overseas. He served in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe during World War II. He was wounded in action on October 22, 1944 and released from hospital in August 1947 with 50% disability. He was discharged on July 31, 1945. He was awarded the 193945 Star, France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Maple Leaf. He served two terms as President of Legion Branch 176 and twenty years as Branch Service Bureau Officer, Chairman of Branch Bursary Committee and Branch Graves Committee. He was awarded the 50th Anniversary Medal, Life Membership, and the Legion Certificate of Merit. He helped organize and was a chartered member of the Forest Legion Pipe Band. Alexander passed away on April 26, 2006. BRITTON, Russel Hubert Russel was born in Gananoque on September 11, 1882. He enlisted in the Army on September 22, 1914 and served in France and in Belgium during World War I. He was the Officer Commanding of Gananoque’s militia battery at the start of World War I. He also was the manager of a local large steel company and was married with three daughters when he enlisted at the age of 32. Just three weeks after the start of the war, Major Britton led 130 men of his 3rd Battery out of town. He was one of the first Canadians to land in France in February 1915 as a member of the 1st Artillery Brigade, Canadian Division. Major Britton’s 3rd Battery fought throughout the great battles of 1915 including the April 1915 gas attack at Ypres and in 1916 at St. Eloi, Mount Sorrel and the Somme where he was awarded the DSO and also was promoted to Lt Col to command the 5th Artillery Brigade. Lt Col Britton fought at Vimy Ridge in April 1917 and was killed in action on May 2, 1917. BREMNER, Madelynne S. Madelynne was born in Kamloops, British Columbia on June 16, 1934. She enlisted in the Air Force and served with the CWAC in Canada until she married Joe McMullan, who was also in the military, and they started a family. She was the proud mother of three sons, one of whom also joined the military. Madelynne passed away on February 21, 2010.
