101 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND COLQUHOUN, Frederick Gibson Frederick was born on September 4, 1886, son of Frederick and J. Liddella Colquhoun of Glencoe Lodge, Vancouver, British Columbia. He enlisted in the Army in December 1915 during World War I. He was attached to the Canadian Infantry (British Columbia Regiment) Division: 72nd Battalion and was mentioned in dispatches. Frederick died on March 1, 1917 and is commemorated on page 218 of the First World War Book of Remembrance and is buried in the Villers Station Cemetery in Pas de Calais, France. COOK, Ernest “Cookie” Ernest was born a Commanda, adopted on the Whitefish Lake Reserve #6 in Sudbury Ontario. The Registered Indian Record of 1906 census shows Ernest was born in 1905, Band Number #42 – 40. He enlisted in the Army in 1939 with the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry Trans to RCASC. Private Cook enlisted in 1939 to 1945, 5th Canadian Armed Division, until RCASC. He Served with Primary Reserve, the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry of Riley’s First Battalion “Always Ready”. He was in active combat in Dieppe and the United Kingdom. His service Medals and Clasps include the Italy Campaign Star; and France and Germany Star. He was a member of the Legion Branch 23 (North Bay) and Dr. Fred Starr Branch 76 in Sudbury for a total of 55 years. He was medically discharged following the loss of his right thumb in 1945. He is posted online at the Algonquin Veterans Tribute Honour list. He was one of the first employees as a Smelter Man for Falconbridge Ltd., of Nickel Mines Local 598/ CAW. He was a left fielder on their team winning the “Baseball Club Nickel Belt League” Championship in 1931. Cookie passed away on November 26, 2004 and is interned at St-Mary’s Cemetery block P, row 13 in North Bay, Ontario. CONROY, Kevin Kevin was born in Stockport, United Kingdom on February 25, 1936. They sailed with Clan Line, UK and immigrated to Canada with his wife and three children in 1965. He enlisted in the Merchant Navy on June 11, 1958 and served on the High Seas. He was discharged on March 17, 1961. Kevin passed away on March 7, 2002. He was a member of Acton Legion Branch 197 for 36 years.
