105 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CRAIG, David Ernest “Ernie” Ernie was born in Amabel Township on October 18, 1920. He enlisted in the Air Force in October 1942. Ernie had the rank of LAC and served in Canada and Newfoundland during World War II until his discharge in March 1946. He was married for only two years and had no family. He was a member of Tara Legion Branch 383 for 27 years. Ernie passed away on March 19, 2002 and is buried in Hillcrest Cemetery, Tara, Ontario. CRASKE, Peter Peter joined the Canadian Army in World War II in 1940 and was posted as a long range navigator on the Transatlantic Ferry Command, where he did 36 transatlantic crossings. In 1943 he was transferred to the United Kingdom with 512 Transport Squadron as navigator on Dakota aircraft dropping paratroops and towing troop gliders, including dropping paratroops of the 6th Airborne Division before D-Day landings, and followed that up with gliders carrying the 6th into action on D-Day. Some other Operations included “Market Garden” – the airborne operations at Arnhem, and the crossing of the Rhine at Wesel. Peter was on the second aircraft to land in Oslo, Norway when it was liberated, and was also involved in the liberation of Holland. After the German defeat, he was transferred to 48 Squadron and participated in the war on Japan. Following the Japanese surrender, he was posted as Staff Officer to Headquarters 232 Group in Rangoon, then to Headquarters South East Asia Air Forces. He was discharged in September 1946. Peter is a member of the Perth-Upon-Tay Legion Branch 244 for thirteen years. CRAMM, W. Clarence Clarence was born in Albemarle Township on February 11, 1924. He enlisted in the Canadian Army (Active) on March 27, 1944 and was discharged in 1946. He served in Canada during World War II. Clarence was a carpenter in Owen Sound and Kitchener. He married and had two children. He was very active in Kitchener Legion Branch 50, of which he was a member for 63 years, and helped passionately with the poppy fund. Clarence passed away on March 16, 2010.
