115 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DANE, Allan Harland Allan was born in Fairfax, Manitoba on January 3, 1926. He enlisted in the Air Force on July 28, 1943 and served during World War II in Canada. He was discharged on December 18, 1946 and was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and War Medal and George VI. He is a 67 year member of the Legion Branch 503. DAVIES, Milbourne Robert “Mel” Milbourne was born in Meadowvale, Manitoba on August 27, 1919. He enlisted in the Army in December 1939 during World War II with the 12th Manitoba Dragoons, Armoured Tank Division. He did his basic training in all parts of Canada. He was in the landing in France and went through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He never talked about what he saw or did; only once they came up on a German force and there was a kid carrying a big gun coming at him yelling “Heil Hilter” (Mel was only 20+ himself). He was overseas for five years and came home on the Queen Mary (believed to be her first voyage). He was married in October 1946 and moved to Burlington, Ontario. Mel worked at Alchem Ltd. until he retired at 62 years old. He is now in long term care. Mel is a Life Member of the Legion Branch 551. DAVIDSON, Richard Douglas Richard was born on March 31, 1919 in Tilbury, Ontario. Prior to the war, Richard resided in RR #3 Tilbury, ON. He was employed as a truck driver and was not yet married. On September 13, 1939 he signed his attestation papers in Windsor, ON, enlisting him in the Essex Scottish Regiment R.C.I.C. to fight in France on behalf of Canada and the British Empire in World War II. On August 19, 1942, Private Richard Douglas Davidson was one of the casualties at Dieppe, France. He is memorialized at the Dieppe Canadian War Cemetery at Hautot-Sur-Mer, SeineMaritimes, France.
