131 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DRYSDALE, John John was born on January 20, 1921 in Chaplin, Saskatchewan. He joined the Army on February 11, 1942 with the Perth Regiment. He served in the United Kingdom and the Central Mediterranean Area during World War II. He was wounded on February 16, 1944 in Italy. He was discharged on June 29, 1945 and returned to civilian life as a carpenter. He was a member of the Acton Legion Branch 197 for 29 years. John passed away on April 12, 1974. DUFF, Thomas Alexander “Stuart” Stuart was born on June 8, 1922 in Corinth, Ontario. He enlisted on February 14, 1941during World War II in the RCAF, Recruiting Centre, Galt. He served in Canada and overseas with the 405 Squadron as a flight engineer. On the 9th trip, the Halifax aircraft crashed on August 11, 1942, Duisburg, Neuen Camp, Germany. Stuart was a Prisoner of War for two years and nine months and endured many hardships in the five different camps. He was hospitalized after the Hunger March of 32 days; he was released on April 25, 1945 by the Liberation of American Forces. On May 5 he was safe in the UK and was discharged on October 30, 1945. Stuart received: 1939-1945 Star, Aircrew Europe Star, Flight Engineer Badge and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. Stuart received his University Degree in Aeronautical Engineering, married his sweetheart Helen after the war and had five children. He passed away on January 31, 2013 in Chalfont, Pennsylvania and buried in, Best Cemetery, Corinth, Ontario. DUFF, Edgar Laverne Edgar was born on June 14, 1910 in Broadacres, Saskatchewan. He was a boat fitter at Russell Bros., Owen Sound before enlisting. Edgar enlisted in the Army as a Craftsman on October 15, 1942 in London, Ontario. He trained in London, Stratford, Ontario and Windsor, Nova Scotia before going overseas in 1943 during World War II. Edgar was with the R.C.O.C. and on May 15, 1944 was transferred to the R.C.E.M.E. He served in Canada, the United Kingdom, Continental Europe and Central Mediterranean. Edgar was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and War Medal 1945. He was discharged in November 30, 1945 and returned to Russell Foundry until 1959 and transferred to Toronto. Edgar, Evelyn and six children moved to Bolton and when retired moved back to Tara in 1975. He passed away on December 21, 1989 and is buried in Hillcrest Cemetery, Tara. He was a member of the Bolton Legion Branch 371 and Tara Branch 383; he held office in both Legions.
