133 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DUFF, Veldorah Mildred “Vel” Veldorah was born on June 26, 1914 in Broadacres, Saskatchewan. She was a registered nurse before enlisting in the Army on July 3, 1941 in London, Ontario during World War II. Veldorah’s rank was Lieutenant (N/S) in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. She crossed the Atlantic on the Queen Elizabeth I and to her surprise her elder brother Edgar was also aboard. They did not see each other again after reaching the UK. She served thirty months in Canada and 21 months in the United Kingdom and Central Mediterranean Areas. On May 22, 1945 she was united with her younger brother Stuart, in London, England, as he had been a Prisoner of War. She received the 1939-1945 Star, the Italy Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the War Medal 1945 and was discharged on November 26, 1945. Veldorah married Ken Kannapin on December 8, 1945 and had no family. Veldorah passed away on September 12, 1998 and is buried at Mount Hope Cemetery, Kitchener, Ontario. DURANT, Harold B. Harold was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on October 9, 1933. He joined the Army in 1953 and was with the 2nd Battalion Black Watch. He was shipped over to Korea with the Army where he stayed until 1956. Harold retired from the Army and moved to Orillia, Ontario. In his civilian life he became a machinist and met his wife Marjorie and had three children. He has been a member of the Legion Branch 34 Orillia for 47 years. DUNN, Leonard James Leonard was born in Windsor, Ontario on December 27, 1933. He enlisted the Royal Canadian Navy on January 18, 1952 and served on the HMCS Mic Mac. During his time of service he was assigned in the Engine Room. After his discharge on March 14, 1957 at HMCS Stadacona Nova Scotia, he worked as a skilled trades supervisor. Leonard and his wife raised six children. He was a member of the Legion Branch 143 Ambassador Leonard passed away on February 1, 1998 in Windsor at the age of 64 years. He was a member of Ambassador Legion Branch 143.
