13 www.on.legion.ca The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) honours all those who have served in the military to defend our Canadian rights, freedoms, and values. Democracy comes at a fearsome cost. Whenever called to defend it, Canadians have willingly paid the price, whether on the battlefields of Europe, Korea, and Afghanistan, or in the tense border areas of the globe. Those who serve show us, in the most vivid way, that preserving our values means standing up for those values. That is what our union has been doing for over a century, first as the Ontario Civil Service Association, and now as OPSEU. We are dedicated to fostering a just and caring society. The spirit of altruism that inspired so many to offer their lives for others inspires us today. We give thanks to all those who gave so much of themselves for the good of so many others.
