155 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GARNISS, Harvey William Harvey was born on June 25, 1920 in Blyth, Ontario to parents George William Garniss and Hannah Moutray. He enlisted in the Army in September 1941 and served with the 31 Fld, 3rd Med, 12th Field Regiment as a Gunner in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe during World War II. He received the 19391945 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He was discharged on January 26, 1946 and returned to his home town of Blyth and raised a family of four children. He also was a mail courier for over 35 years and a bus driver for over thirty years. Harvey passed away on June 6, 1997. GARRAWAY, Patrick Edwin Patrick was born in Simcoe County, Ontario on March 11, 1922. He was a welder living in Penetanguishene prior to enlisting in the Army with Irish Regiment of Canada, R.C.I.C. After completing training, he was sent to Holland to fight in World War II. Sadly, he was killed in action on April 28, 1945. Patrick is buried in Holten Canadian Cemetery in Netherlands. His name is recorded on page 517 of the Book of Remembrance. GARNISS, Norman Leslie Norman was born in Blyth, Ontario on April 4, 1916 to parents George William Garniss and Hannah Moutray. He enlisted in the Army in September 1941 and served with the 1st Battalion Scots Fusiliers – D Company in Europe, England and Canada during World War II. The medals he received are unknown as they were stolen from his home. He was discharged in January 1946. Norman pursued a career with CN Railway upon his return home from overseas for over 25 years. He never married. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Mississauga. Norman passed away on October 22, 1989.
