161 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GOOD, Thomas Charles Thomas was born on June 19, 1879 in the town of Bracebridge, Ontario. Once he completed his early education he joined the railway. Thomas had married his wife Jessamine (Stephenson) prior to enlisting in the Army. At the age of 36 he joined the service during World War I on November 25, 1915. His basic training was completed in Toronto, Ontario then in August 1916 and he was sent overseas on the Empress of Britain. After further training his unit was sent to France. He was assigned to the 126th Battalion from November 1915 to August 2016 then joined with the 109th Battalion from August 1916 to December 1916 then the 38th Battalion from December 1916 to November 1917. Thomas was wounded at the battle of Vimy Ridge when an enemy shell burst into and exploded in the bunker he was in. The concussion threw him against the wall with great force. Thomas was left with multiple wounds as well as being permanently deafened in both ears. He was hospitalized for some time, and then returned to Canada on November 28, 1917 where he was discharged as medically unfit for further service. Thomas and his wife raised a family of four daughters and one son. Thomas passed away on August 17, 1939. GOVIER, John H. John was born in Ottawa, Ontario on February 10, 1921. He enlisted in the Army on June 4, 1941. He served with the Canadian Medical Corp in England during World War II. He was stationed in Farnsworth. The hospital there was bombed and he had shrapnel in his left eye. John was discharged on October 3, 1945. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and Defence of Britain. He was a member of the Legion Branch 160 in Halifax, Nova Scotia for two years. John passed away on September 2, 2001. GORDON, Wilson G. L. Ford Wilson was born on February 26, 1924 in New Brunswick and moved to Acton, Ontario in 1933. He attended Acton Public School and Continuation School. He was a leader in the Boy Scout Troop. He enlisted in the Army in March 1943 and trained in Hamilton as a cook and also at Camp Borden. He went overseas in October 1943 and was killed in action on December 14, 1943 in Florence, Italy at twenty years of age.
