165 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GRAHLMAN, Barry Neil Barry was born on September 24, 1964 in Markdale, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on February 3, 1986. He spent 25 years as a Military Medic. His first posting was on the Air Force Base in Winnipeg for two years followed by five years with the 2nd PPCLI. Following that he was transferred to the National Defence Medical Centre (NDMC) in Ottawa and spent five year working in the Medical and Surgical wards. He was then transferred to CFB Halifax and worked for one year in the Hospital. He then took posting to the HMCS St. John’s for five years before transferring back to CFB Halifax working in the Operations and Training department retiring as Sergeant. His tours of duty included Cyprus, Yugoslavia, Op Apollo (Arabian Gulf onboard ship) and finally to Afghanistan. He was discharged in May 2010. Along with his CD1, he was awarded the Southwest Asia Medal, the Peacekeeping Medal, Yugoslavia and the Cyprus Medal’s. Five years prior to retiring from the military, Barry was hired on part-time as a Paramedic in the city of Halifax. Once discharged, he was hired on full time. Barry now resided in Owen Sound, ON. He has been a member of Legion Branch 464 for thirty years. GRANT, Thomas McFarlane Thomas was born in Paisley, Scotland on August 21, 1940. He enlisted in the Army with the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders on March 25, 1957. He served in Borneo, Cypress, Aden, West Germany and Northern Ireland. As a hero of Aden on January 23, 1968 he received a Gallantry award for his part in the operations which lead to the British Withdrawal of troops. On December 1, 1978 HRM Queen Elizabeth II inspected the colours of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders after which she joined the RQMS Tom Grant for lunch in the Officer Mess. Thomas was a member of the Acton Legion Branch 197 for fifteen years. He passed away on August 13, 2013. GRANT, Roy Darwin Roy was born in Malden Township, Essex County on May, 5 1924. He enlisted in the Navy on June 5, 1944 with the HMCS Stettler and HMCS Gleneagle. He was a cook on the HMCS Stettler. After World War II, he was stationed on the HMCS Gleneagle as a cook. Roy married, had three children and after his discharge worked at Allied Chemical in Amherstburg Ontario for 39 years. Roy has been a member of the Legion Branch 157 for 33 years.
