167 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GREAVES, Ivan L. Ivan was born in Maidstone, Essex County, Ontario on December 27, 1915. Ivan was the youngest of six children of Albert and Catherine (Smith) Greaves. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force on October 6, 1943 and was stationed in Trenton, Ontario at the Canadian Forces Base (Deseranto) as an airplane mechanic during World War II. He was honourably released on February 25, 1945 and was transferred to the reserves. Ivan returned home to a wife, Gladys, and three children, Joan, Jim and Judy and got a job at the Ford plant in Windsor, Ontario. He later purchased the Sunoco Gas Station in Essex in 1950, and sold it in 1962 to work at McCallum Transport. He joined The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 201 and also became a Mason Member in 1961, until he passed away on April 21, 2005 at the age of 89. GREEN, James James was born in Toronto in 1927. He joined the Queen’s Own Rifles in 1948 as a rifleman, following in his father’s footsteps. James advanced through the ranks and on October 5, 1966, he was promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer 1 and was appointed RSM. Now he held the same position as did his father, RSM Dunc Green, MM, CD in 1953. In 1967 he was awarded the Centennial Medal. He took his commission in 1970 and became a Captain. He was an avid rifle shot and a former President of the Maple Leaf Rifle club and held the position of President of the Queen’s Own Rifles Association just like his father. James was the 2nd Vice President of the Queen’s Own Rifles, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 344 when he passed away in 1993. GREEN, Duncan Duncan was born in Paisley, Scotland on December 24, 1896. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1915 with 124th Battalion nicknamed “124th Pals”. The Pals endured the German gas attacks at Vimy Ridge and the intense trench warfare at Passchendaele, Belgium. Mr. Green was awarded the MM for his bravery in the face of heavy enemy fire when he led four teams of horses pulling ammunition wagon to front line troops. Mr. Green also served in the 27th Veterans Guard in World War II, and after, joined the Queen’s Own Rifles. In 1953 he was promoted to RSM. Mr. Green was the President of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 344, Toronto, Ontario. Mr. Green had two passions in life: the army and his family. Duncan passed away on May 20, 1988.
