171 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GREVILLE, John Edward Alan Alan was born on January 24, 1925 in East York, Toronto. He enlisted in the Navy in June 1943 attached to HMCS Middlesex. He served on the High Seas in the North Atlantic during World War II. His position on ship as Gunner gave him many stories to tell, including being woken up and having to defend the ship naked. Alan was discharged in November 1945. He ran a successful Hardware business in Oakville before moving to Barrie, then to Port Carling to retire, puttering with woodworking. Alan donated all of his naval memorabilia to the HMCS Middlesex Museum in London, Ontario. Alan passed away on August 25, 2013. He was a sixteen year member of the Port Carling Legion Branch 529. GROSZ, Herman Samuel Herman was born on November 30, 1895, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Grosz of Waterloo, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on June 30, 1916 and was attached to the Canadian Field Artillery, Division: 4th Ammunition Col. Driver Herman Grosz was killed in service on June 4, 1918 and is commemorated on page 420 of the First World War Book of Remembrance and is buried in Hampton Hill (St. Marks) Churchyard, Middlesex, United Kingdom. GROSZ, Adam Henry Adam was born on July 11, 1893, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Grosz fromWaterloo, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army and was attached to the Canadian Infantry (Western Ontario Regiment) Division: 1st Battalion on February 15, 1915. Private Adam Grosz was killed in service on April 29, 1916 and is commemorated on page 96 of the First World War Book of Remembrance and is buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery in Belgium.
