175 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HALL, Leslie Leslie was born on November 5, 1896 in Hall’s Bridge (Buckhorn), Ontario. He enlisted on March 1, 1917 in Peterborough and served with the 247th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. In May 1917, he was shipped from Halifax to Liverpool, England and at West Sandling, England was transferred to 235th Battalion of the 3rd Canadian Reserve. On arriving in LeHavre France, he served with 4th CMR Battalion of the 8th Brigade. Leslie’s first big battle was at Vimy Ridge. He was present for the Liberation of Mons (Armistice) and gassed near Amiens. He was shipped back to Basingstake, England after getting sick. His medals include British War Medal, Victory Medal, Class A and B Badges. He was discharged August 4, 1919 at the rank of Private. Leslie was the founder of Six Foot Bay Resort in Buckhorn which still exists today and run by his son Gary and family. HALL (WOOD), Muriel A. Muriel was born in Redwood, Muskoka on May 24, 1924. She joined the Canadian’s Woman’s Army Corps in 1944, remaining in Canada for the duration of her military career serving during World War II. After the war and her discharge in September 1945 she became a high school teacher. She married Charles Hall. She is a member of the RCL Peninsula Branch 489. Following retirement, Muriel became an active member of the Minett Seniors Club. HALL, Melville Melville was born in Hall’s bridge (Buckhorn), Ontario. He enlisted in 1916 in Peterborough to serve in World War I with the Canadian Expeditionary Force. After his initial training in Ottawa, he went by train to Halifax, NS and shipped to Liverpool England. More training took place at West Sandling, located on the south coast of England. While on ten days leave, Melville actually met up with his brother Leslie from a different battalion. Later in the war, they were both hospitalized at Basingstroke, England and totally unaware of each other’s stay. Melville also served in France and was involved in a morning battle just before the Liberation of Mons (Armistice). His medals include the British War Medal, the Victory Medal and Class A Badge. He was discharged at the rank of Private. Melville passed away in 1955.
