187 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HEARNS, Reginald Ernest James “Reg” Reg was born in Napanee, Ontario on September 27, 1924. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy on June 1, 1943. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy Theatre, North Atlantic. He served during World War II on HMS Paisley, destroyer, on escort duty; also on battleship, HMS Malava and on frigate, HMCS St. Catharines. He was demobilized on October 18, 1945. His rank upon discharge was Able Seaman. Reg passed away on December 7, 2002. He was a member of the Lt. Colonel Harry Babcock Legion Branch 137. HEMBRUFF, Leonard Morland Leonard was born on January 11, 1922 in Little Current, Ontario. He joined the Royal Air Force in September 1942 during World War II and served in Canada and England at the rank of Sergeant. Leonard took his training at Brandon, Manitoba and later transferred to Calgary where he was forced, during a training exercise, to parachute out of his disabled aircraft. A few days after the accident he received his wings on November 23, 1943. He was also qualified as a wireless operator and Air Gunner. Leonard was killed in action on July 29, 1944 and is buried in Aldergrove, Country Antrim, Ireland. HEBERT, Jean-Paul Jean-Paul was born on September 16, 1919 in Montreal, Quebec. He joined the Canadian Coast Guard on January 8, 1942 during World War II; and later enlisted in the Army with the Canadian Infantry Corps on May 12, 1942 in Montreal. JeanPaul served in Canada, England and Belfast. He was a Sgt. and sent to Ireland to help train the Belgium and Polish Army. Jean-Paul was discharged on March 8, 1946 to return to civilian life. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp.
