23 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ADLINGTON, Percy L. Percy was born in Newport Wales on May 20, 1911. He enlisted in the Royal Navy in May 1940. Percy served in the English Channel on a Motor Torpedo Boat and later in the North Atlantic on convoy duty during World War II. He was discharged in 1947. Percy passed away on January 4, 2006. AGNEW, Wm. Hugh Dingman Hugh was born in Hamilton, Ontario on November 3, 1909. He served in the Army during World War II and served in Canada, England, France, Germany and Italy. Hugh received his basic training in St. Thomas Armouries and after Officer’s training, joined the Irish Regiment of Canada in 1940 before being sent overseas. Later, as an officer (Lieutenant) he was attached to the British 8th Army as a “Canloan” (filling in for British Officers), where he served as a war correspondent with the “Field detachment No.1 Canadian Public relations. He was an Assistant Editor of the Rome edition of The Maple Leaf, a Canadian publication for overseas troops during the war and held a similar position with the Brussels edition of the paper” (The Strathroy Dispatch, The St. Thomas Time Journal, and the Stratford (Beacon) Herald). He received the Canadian Irish Regiment Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the France and Germany Star, the Italy Star, the King George VI and Defence Medal. In 1945 he returned to Canada and worked a year with Toronto for the Financial Post, then moved back to St. Thomas. He was appointed Managing Editor with the St. Thomas Times Journal in 1955 and until he retired, having spent 31 years with the paper. Hugh passed away on April 4, 1986. ADLINGTON, Raymond H. Raymond was born in March 1923 in Newport, Wales. He enlisted in the Army for active service in June 1940 with the Elgin Regiment during World War II and later served with the Fort Garry Horse. He served about two years and three months in Canada, and a year and eight months in the United Kingdom, going to the Continent on D-Day in 1944, and was in the battle of Falaise. Raymond passed away in 2010.
