27 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ALLAN, Grant Edward Grant was born in a farm in Erin Township, Wellington County, Ontario on November 17, 1919. He enlisted with the South Alberta Regiment of the 4th Canadian Infantry Division in 1941. He proudly served as a tank mechanic in England until August 1944, when a severe case of pleurisy forced him to return to Canada. After a year of recovery, he returned home where he met, and married, Mary Fennell. The two were married for over sixty years and had four children: Doug, Susan, Janet and Nancy. He went on to be a member of the Acton Police Force, worked as a machinist on the Avro Arrow, and was a Correctional Officer in Guelph, Ontario. Grant had a love of local and family history. He spent his leisure time at the local coffee shop and the family cottage at Colpoy’s Bay, Ontario. He was a Life Member of Acton Legion Branch 197. Grant passed away on January 11, 2012. ALLEN, Frederick C. L. Frederick was born on August 29, 1930 in London, England. He enlisted in the Army on January 6, 1949 with the 23 Corps Signal Regiment as a Motorcycle Dispatch Rider. He was discharged on July 10, 1950. Frederick is a member of the Legion Branch Acton 197. ALLAN, Murray Kenneth Kenneth was born on December 20, 1920 in Penetanguishene, Ontario to Gerald Clifford and Tena Allen. He enlisted in the Army and served as a Private with the Gray and Simcoe Foresters RCAC during World War II. Kenneth was hit by a car while returning to duty on September 5, 1940 and passed away.
