31 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ARGUE, Paul E. Paul was born in Simcoe, Ontario on June 29, 1934. He enlisted in the RCAF in September 1952 and served for 35 years, twenty of those years piloting Jet Fighters during the Cold War in Europe and another fifteen years with NATO in Canada. He served in ‘Supreme HQ’s Allied Powers, Europe’, ‘Allied Forces Central Europe’ and ‘Allied Forces Northern Europe’ headquarters retiring in 1987 as Deputy Commander, Fighter Group in North Bay, Ontario. He was discharged in April 1988. Paul accumulated over six thousand hours in both fixed wing aircrafts and helicopters and has held a civilian Commercial Flying License in Canada. Paul and his wife Sheila have lived in five of Canada’s provinces as well as Norway, Holland, Belgium and France. He has been a member of Harry Wray Legion Branch 302 for 38 years. ARMSTRONG, Thomas Michael Thomas was born in Owen Sound, Ontario on February 5, 1933 to Thomas and Alice (Edmonstone) Armstrong. Tom entered into a four-year technical course (auto mechanic) at Owen Sound Collegiate Vocational Institute and graduated in 1951. He worked for Slaters Auto Electric Limited for 34 years. He served as a Reservist for the Army with the Grey and Simcoe Foresters from 1956 to 1983 in Canada. He started as Private and after 27 years rose to the rank of Captain. Tom served for seven years as the Adm. Adjutant. One of Tom’s memorable highlights of his service occurred in 1979 when they were visited by Princess Ann who was the Colonel in Chief of the Regiment. Tom married Geraldine (Barfoot) and was blessed with the arrival of their daughter Louise. Unfortunately at the age of 52, on May 30, 1985, Tom died in a workplace accident and is buried just outside of Owen Sound in the Annan Cemetery. ARMSTRONG, Arthur Douglas Arthur was born in Palmerston, Ontario on May 25, 1955. In 2010, a retired Douglas Armstrong had a strong desire to serve his country as a Canadian civilian during the War in Afghanistan. He supported the Canadian and American Military Forces at Camp Nathan Smith in Kandahar. He was deployed for six months to provide water treatment technician services under exceptional circumstances with SNC Lavalin. He was discharged on October 1, 2010 and was awarded the General Service Medal for his expertise to the Canadian Military. This medal is presented to members of the Canadian Forces or members of Allied Forces deployed outside of Canada with Canadian Forces. Canadian citizens who are not members of the Canadian Forces may also be awarded this medal for providing full-time direct support outside of Canada to operations in the presence of an armed enemy. He has been a member of the Onaping Falls Legion Branch 503 for 35 years.
