47 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BERGERON, Maurice P. “Moe” Maurice “Moe” was born on June 17, 1947 in Kapuskasing, Ontario. He joined the Regular Forces in September 1966. He served with the Canadian Guards 1st and 2nd Battalion, the Royal Canadian Regiment 3rd Battalion and the Administrative Branch, the Reserve Branch, the Security and Intelligence Branch and the Operations Branch. Finally he served at the Canadian Forces Staff School in Toronto as Chief Clerk. Other posting included providing diplomat security during the FLQ crisis and the Middle East during the Syrian War. He was awarded the Canadian Decoration, the Queen Elizabeth Golden Jubilee Medal, Middle East Medal and the Canadian Peacekeeping Medal. Moe retried in 1993 with 30 years of service. He joined The Last Post Fund Ontario as a Counselor. Moe is currently living in Oshawa with his wife Sandra and enjoys retirement living. BIRCH, Charles Joseph “Chuck” Charles was born in Pointe Anne, Ontario on July 28, 1921. He joined the Army at the age of eighteen. He enlisted with the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment First Contingent and was with a Bren gun career outfit. Chuck was reported wounded in action on July 21, 1943 in Sicily as a result of a spectacular blind drive and fall down a steep 25 foot embankment while under fire. He sustained severe hand lacerations as well as back and neck injuries and was hospitalized in North Africa for approximately 8 to 10 weeks. He might have come home after this period of hospitalization in North Africa but rather chose to return to his regiment for the duration of the war. Chuck spent time in Italy, Sicily, England, Scotland and North Africa. His dedication to his country demonstrated his true character throughout his life. He was a kind, loving, hardworking husband, father, son and friend, admired, loved and respected by all who were fortunate enough to know Chuck. He passed away on March 15, 1997. He was a member of the Legion Branch 52 for twenty years. BINGHAM, Jenny-Ann Jenny-Ann was born on March 16, 1976 in Sudbury, Ontario. She joined the Army as a young adult who wanted to make a difference in August 1994 with the 2nd Battalion, The Irish Regiment of Canada and 28 Service Battalion. She accomplished numerous tasks even when others doubted her. She did not allow her small stature to stop her. Infanteer was her profession of choice. In August 1996, she moved to Ottawa where she re-mustered to become a “Mobile Support Equipment Operator” – a professional driver. She was promoted to Corporal before moving. Cpl. Bingham then moved to Sudbury and after a few years she was promoted to Master Corporal. In 2007, she did the Training and Tour for Afghanistan Task Force 03-08. She returned to Canada in 2009, where she tries to continue a civilian life and with plenty of support it is working. She was discharged in August 2015. Jenny-Ann is a member of the Legion Branch 564 Lockerby.
