51 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BISH, Henry Godfrey Henry was born on November 28, 1887, son of William and Mary Bish of Waterloo, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army during World War I and was attached to the Canadian Infantry (Quebec Regiment) Division: 14th Battalion. Private Henry Bish was killed in service on September 26, 1916 and is commemorated on page 54 of the First World War Book of Remembrance. Henry is buried in the Courcelette British Cemetery in Somme, France. BOEHMER, Herman Donald Herman was born on September 7, 1930 in Ottawa, Ontario. He enlisted in Air Force in November 1948 and served in England and Arctic as a Peacekeeper. Herman also served in the Army as a reservist. During his posting in North Luffenham England, Herman played with the Nothingham Panthers hockey team from 1951 to 1953. Following the RCAF Flyers Olympic gold medal win in 1948, a young Boehmer was recruited to play a goaltending position. Later in life as a civilian, he played for the Canada National Hockey team in Ottawa as a backup goalie for the 1968-69 season, there was also a team in Winnipeg. When the RCAF Olympic team had their reunion in 1969 he was invited to play as goaltender. He was discharged in November 1965 and received the NATO England 1951-1953 and Canadian Arctic 1951 medals. He has been a member of the Galt Legion Branch 121 for 35 years. He is also a member of the NATO Veterans Organization Canada Unit 5. BLENKHORN, Donald C. “Donnie” Donnie was born on July 17, 1926 in Look Off, King County, Nova Scotia. He enrolled in the Canadian Army (Regular) on June 6, 1951 in Halifax, NS as an Infantryman. After his trades training he was assigned to the 1st Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment in London, Ontario. Donnie served in an operational tour in Korea returning in late 1954. His medals include the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal for Korea and the United Nations Service Medal Korea. Donnie was honourably discharged on January 20, 1955 at the rank of Private 1st Class. He was a very active member in Legion Branches 218 Brussels and 422 Ailsa Craig until his death on October 5, 1992 at the age of 66.
