61 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BRANDFORD, Thomas M. Louis Louis was born in Georgetown, Ontario on January 28, 1927. In March 1945, Louis joined the Canadian Infantry Corps. He was honourably discharged in September 1945. He received the War Medal 1939-1945. In August 1950, Louis joined the Special Forces designated for Canada, Korea and Japan. He was promoted as a Leading Infantryman. He was honourably discharged in August 1952. He received the UN Service Medal and Korean Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal for Korea. In 1967, he married Fay Miller of Georgetown. They had two daughters Donna and Jeanette. They had their own greenhouse and market gardening business. Louis was also a builder, a stone mason and landscaper. In 1994, they moved to Elliot Lake Ontario. On June 12, 1996, Louis was diagnosed with lung cancer. The surgery and radiation was unsuccessful and on May 31, 1998 he lost his battle with cancer. Louis was a member of the Legion in Georgetown Ontario for five years. BRICKER, George Gilbert George was born in Waterloo, Ontario on September 1, 1892, son of Simon B. Bricker and Sibell Nicholl Bricker from the Waterloo region. He enlisted in the Army on March 29, 1916 and was attached to the Canadian Army Medical Corps, 2nd Battalion where he served as Captain. He was granted a commission as temporary lieutenant on March 17, 1917. He was reported critically ill of influenza at the #6 American Base Hospital in Bordeaux. Subsequently, George passed away on October 28, 1918. BRANTON, Peter D. H. Peter was born in Oshawa, Ontario on May 17, 1923. He enlisted in the Army in 1941 during World War II. Peter took his training at Camp Borden where he became a ski instructor and a Lance Corporal. He served his overseas duty in Newfoundland with the Edmonton Fusilliers and was discharged in 1945. After the war, he continued as a member of the local militia at the Ontario Regiment at Oshawa where, as a Sergeant, he was in charge of Cadets for many years. He was married on December 31, 1945 at Oshawa to his Newfoundland war bride, Katherine Torraville. They raised five children. Peter and his wife were frequent guests in the Sgt’s and officers’ messes at special and important events. Peter’s occupation was carpenter and he built many houses in Toronto, Scarboro and Oshawa before joining the ranks at the Darlington Nuclear Station. Peter lives in a retirement residence in Oshawa, his wife of 66 years predeceasing him in 2011.
