63 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BRIDLE, William “Bill” Bill was born in Exeter, England on February 11, 1920. Bill served in World War II with the RCAF from 1942 to 1945 with the 420 and 415 Squadrons and achieved the rank of Pilot Officer. As a tail gunner, he flew on an incredible 34 operational trips in a Halifax Bomber and was involved in both day and night bombing missions over hostile enemy territory. He was awarded the Operational Wings of the Royal Canadian Air Force and a posthumous Service Commendation from The Minister of Veterans Affair. Bill served as President and held numerous Executive positions with the RCAF Branch 428 and was awarded the Ontario Group Member of the Year Award in 1988. He was an advocate of Veterans’ accomplishments and served on the Cenotaph and Remembrance Day Committees and was instrumental in bringing a decommissioned sabre jet fighter to the Peterborough Zoo. Bill was actively involved in the Air Cadet program, chaired the RCAF Organ Donor Program and organized numerous activities and group trips for 428 Wing members and seniors in the community. He was a member of the Peterborough Legion Branch 52. Bill passed away on July 19, 2006. BROAD, Welbourne Everett Everett was born in St. Thomas, Ontario on November 14, 1914. He joined the Army in 1940 and served in England and France during World War II. Everett was a Corporal in the Medical Core for six years. In 1946, he came home to his wife Chloe. He had five children. He received the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal for his service. He was also a reservist in the Elgin Regiment. He worked at the Psychiatric Hospital for 36 years then retired. Everett passed away on January 12, 1985. BRINKMAN, Eldon Clarence Eldon was born in Meaford in 1918. He enlisted in the Army with the Medical Core during World War II. He served in Holland, Germany and Kiska in the Aleutian Islands. Eldon passed away on December 9, 2012.
