67 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BROWN, Bernard James “Bernie” Bernie was born on August 16, 1934 in Lindsay, Ontario. He joined the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry 3 BN on October 15, 1951, Camp Borden. His unit moved to Camp Ipperwash and a member of 3 PPCLI First Hockey Team. He was posted to 2 PPCLI Calgary for Airborne Training in April 1952 at Rivers and at Shilo, Serial 129 where he was a member of “Mobile Striking Force” from 1952 to 1953. He was on Draft for Korea but the war ended in July 1953. He was then posted to BN. HQ. Co. for Sniper Training and Air Photo Interpretation course at Rivers, MB. In October 1953 to posted in Germany, Camp Fort MacLeod. Following completion of the NCO course he was promoted to L/Cpl. and assigned to Intelligence Section BN. HQ. He was a member of Battalion Soccer Team winning Brigade Championships in 1954 and 1955. Bernie returned to Canada and released on June 7, 1955. He was awarded the Canadian Parachute Badge and Special Forces Medal (NATO). He is currently a member of the Sir Sam Hughes Legion Branch 67 Lindsay, Ontario for over with 60 years. He worked as a Letter Carrier for thirty years retiring in April 1995. BROWN, Daniel Sydney Daniel was born in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia on May 6, 1915. He began his military career with the Argyle & Sutherland Highlanders (NPAM) in 1930. He served with the Hamilton Service Corp from 1933 until dispatched to England in 1939 to train for his Royal Warrant. On completion, he served at the Sandhurst Military Academy, RSM of the RCASC Reinforcement Unit, the 5th Armoured Division in Sicily and Italy (1943-44) and #1 Administrative Transport until demobilization in 1946. Re-enlisting, he served with the RCASC in Regina, Toronto and Borden. He served on “I” staff, coordinated the Tri-services parade in the 50’s, as the last RSM of the RCASC School and the 1st SWO of CFSAL coaching both hockey teams until retiring in 1970. With his wife Doris, Danny raised five sons, owned a corner store and ran Alliston’s minor hockey and the Ontario Women’s Hockey Tournament. Daniel passed away on February 26, 1988. He was a member of the Legion in Barrie. BROWN, Charles Raymond “Ray” Ray was born in Marmora, Ontario on April 14, 1913. He enlisted in the Army on March 31, 1942 during World War II and he served in Canada. After Ray was discharged on June 3, 1946, he returned to his small farm in Marmora. He was a Life Member of the Marmora Legion Branch 237. He was President of the Branch from 1978 to 1980. He was always involved in many Legion and community events. He received his military service medals and also Legion medals and awards. Ray passed away on August 10, 1986.
