69 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BROWN, Frederick John Frederick was born in Herne Bay, Kent, England on February 2, 1898. He enlisted in the Army in 1914 during World War I with the Kent Buff, Regiment. He participated in the Great War for Civilisation from 1914 to 1919. He served in India, Pakistan and Iraq during World War II. He joined the Perth Regiment in 1939 served under Major McKenzie of Militia Walkerton, Ontario. He served as a guard at Prisoner of War Camp 30 on the site of the Bowmanville Boys training school when he was returned to Canada. He married Hazel Locking and had nine children. He was a Life Member of the Hanover Legion Branch 130. Frederick passed away on January 19, 1983. BROWN, Samuel A. Samuel was born in York, Ontario on June 27, 1987. He enlisted in the Army on August 16, 2008 with the 4 E.S.R. He served in Canada, Afghanistan, the Philippines and is still serving. He has been a member of the Whitby Legion Branch 112 for six years. BROWN, James Ernest James was born in Richmond, Ontario on December 20, 1912. He enlisted in the Army during World War II in June 1943 with the RCAMC. He arrived in Beverly and was sent to #23 C6H-Watford where he met 2nd Lieutenant WF Sirett RCAMC. He was treated for injuries from the D-Day invasions. He remembers the buzz bombs and V-2’s. One landed one hundred yards from him. He took a front line course in London and was then shipped to Eboli, Italy at a detention centre. The doctors did a lot of work with the civilian population and delivered a lot of babies. He was then assigned to Military Headquarters in London. James was married and discharged from the Army in March 1946. He came home and finished his internship and ended up in Fort Erie where he practiced medicine for 35 years. James passed away on September 24, 1995.
